The power of big thinking can help you unlock your dream life. Are you ready to break through your current limitations and challenges into a big-thinking mindset? Not only that but are you committed to finally taking the small, consistent action to get to where you want to be living your dream life? In this blog post, I share the transformative power of big thinking to help you achieve your goals & think big for your potential and future. Discover the big thinking tools that you can practise to make your dreams and desires a real-life reality.
The Limits of Thinking Small
Your self-worth is your ceiling. I once heard this in an episode of The Goal Digger Podcast by Jenna Kutcher. It has stuck with me ever since. Your self-worth influences your ceiling to what you believe is possible for you. To achieve, to have and to do. Further, what you believe is possible for you- limiting or expansive can be made true.
When you think small, it can limit your ability to unlock & discover new opportunities and embrace a more happy and fulfilled potential. Not thinking big for your potential can sometimes lead to unfulfilled dreams and goals.
Did you know that you have a big and beautiful potential just waiting to be fulfilled?
Your potential is fulfilled through action. And, sometimes to get to the point of taking consistent, committed action, you need to break through barriers such as limiting beliefs and mindsets holding you back.
Do you feel stuck in your current circumstances and do you dream of more happiness and fulfilment? Is there a part of you that knows you can achieve your dream life and also a part of you that doesn’t fully believe that it’s possible for you? It can be easy to focus on your current struggles and limitations and believe that this is all that’s possible for you because you feel stuck.
Shifting your focus to solutions and opening your mind to big thinking can help you create the transformative shift that you crave in your life. For example, I dreamed of having a more happy and fulfilling career that I could work from anywhere in the world. In my current circumstances, I was in a job that didn’t make me happy anymore. However, I needed to do it to pay my rent and expenses. I felt challenged and slightly stuck as I had been applying for work-from-home jobs for at least 6 months with no yeses. It was disappointing and disheartening because I so deeply craved positive change. After I came home from an amazing solo travel to Bali, I knew that I didn’t have to wait to be happy.
“Make it happen“
I thought to myself. So, I started to focus on solutions rather than my problems. My rent increased and this was an even bigger push for me to create the change I wanted and needed. Once I started to focus on solutions and open myself up to them, my thinking started to expand (big thinking) and so did my possibilities. I was not stuck, this was not my only option, which I am truly grateful to be given this time in my life where I had a lot of freedom.
One day, in my beautiful little eco-village studio, in the comfort of my studio I had the idea to start my Blog, a second time round. At the time, I wasn’t even thinking that I could have my own business that allowed me to explore my creative freedom and work from anywhere in the world. That transformative shift from small thinking to big thinking, from limitations & problems to solutions and possibilities created the room for this idea to come through. My now dream career that is in alignment with my true happiness and fulfilment, who I am, who I came here to be and my dream life. Thus, if I had kept focusing on my problems and had not thought big for my potential, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing right now & achieving my dreams.
Self-Empowerment Reminder: “If they can have this, so can I. If they can do it, so can I. I am no different, no less.”
Overcoming the Fear of Failure or Success
Do you fear failing? Maybe you even fear, what if I’m successful and actually achieve what I truly desire? Staying small can make us feel safe. Even if in your current comfort zone you are frustrated with your circumstances, sometimes you can often stay there because it feels familiar and makes you feel safe. However, embracing your potential can inspire you to grow, expand, evolve and leave behind outdated behaviours that no longer serve you. Thinking big and taking the actions towards achieving your dream life does require growth. One way that growth happens is when you step through your limits, face your fears and amidst change.
“Real change is difficult at the beginning, but gorgeous at the end. Change begins the moment you get the courage and step outside your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
― Roy T. Bennett
Sometimes fearing failure or fearing success can limit your potential to achieve your dream life as you don’t take the action to make it happen. Or sometimes even think big enough for your potential & future. Do you want to live your last day on earth thinking what if I believed in myself and my vision enough to make it a reality? What if I had made the choices and taken the action to get there? What if I believed in myself and trusted myself and God?
What if I believed that I was worthy of living the life I truly desire?
Don’t let the fear of failure or even success hold you back from having and achieving your dream life. Learn to reframe ‘failure’, setbacks and challenges as stepping stones, an opportunity for your growth and for you to become a better version of yourself. As disheartening as failure, setbacks and challenges can be they can also be leveraged to your advantage. For example, leveraged for you to become more aligned, learn to speak your truth more, gain confidence & self-belief, love yourself more and honour your self-worth. This is where the next point comes in handy as a strategy for reframing & overcoming your fear of failure or success when thinking big for your life.
Developing a Growth Mindset
Developing a growth mindset is a key to big thinking and achieving your dream life. “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”- Beverly Sills. This quote is a good representation of how many of your big goals and dreams require growth to get there. Not only that but a continuous commitment to growth throughout the journey.
On the other side of growth is expansion.
The difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset is that a fixed mindset can lead you to give up easily, feel disempowered and avoid challenges to prevent you from the possibility of failure/ not achieving your dreams. Whereas, a growth mindset allows you to view your challenges as an opportunity to grow, take responsibility, feel more empowered and develop further into a better version of you.
Having a growth-orientated mindset is a great process to have in place so that when fears come up, challenges, obstacles and setbacks do arise, you can step through them with more grace. Additionally, you really do learn along the way through taking action.
Empowering Growth Mindset Affirmation: “My challenges and obstacles serve a purpose. They allow me to grow and become a more aligned version of me.”
What if my fears come true? What if my dreams come true? This quote is from my Free Daily Self Empowerment Reminders eBook. You can receive yours here.
One way to develop a growth mindset is to embrace taking positive risks and leaps of faith. By positive, I mean calculated risks where your pros outweigh the cons. View taking positive risks as a chance to grow, develop your knowledge & skills and to expand. Additionally, taking leaps of faith can help you develop a growth mindset. There is so much growth that can happen when you take leaps of faith. Further, when you take leaps of faith into the unknown, you can challenge your fears and worries as you take courageous action forward. As you embrace thinking big in your life and take courageous action forward which may include a leap of faith and risks, a growth mindset is a necessary tool to use.
Building Resilience, Patience and Perseverance
Resilience, patience and perseverance play an important role in achieving your big goals. The road to success and achieving your goals and dream life will not always be easy. There will be times when you will feel disappointed, disheartened, indecisive and maybe even frustrated. The transformative power of big thinking requires you to practice resilience, patience and perseverance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Because you know that you are worthy of having the future you desire even if it’s not your reality just yet. And, you know that amazing things are possible for you. Overall, the importance of the role that resilience, patience and perseverance have in big thinking is that these traits help you overcome obstacles and challenges on the road to achieving your dream life.
One way to start thinking big is to believe that you are worthy of more and different.
Practise perseverance when you feel like “Will I ever get to my goal? Will I ever have what I truly desire? After no, after no and after no. Because under that, you have a core why that motivates you and that is bigger than yourself.
A note on emotional resilience: Let your emotions come and then let them go. But do not let them rule your ability to forgive, let go, move on and try again.
A note on patience:
Good, lasting things take time. Be patient with yourself and your progress. Let your underlying sense of self-belief and self-trust guide you. Follow your passion and enjoy this moment for this moment is your life. Inspired by the quote written by Omar Khayyam. Be clear on your goals and take consistent daily action to get there. Patience is practised and so necessary on the path of big thinking and achieving your dream life.
Don’t stop thinking big for your life because of setbacks, failures, hurt and challenges. See this not as a ‘maybe I’m not meant to have what I want’, but as a ‘maybe my goal won’t look exactly how I thought it was supposed to, but it will be more right for me than ever before’. View it as ‘I can have what I want and what I want is more than possible and achievable for me. What I want wants me.’ Stay adaptive in the pursuit of your dreams. Pivot when things are no longer working for you and no longer feel in alignment with you. Forgive yourself and learn. We are only human after all.
You are no longer obliged to be anyone or do anything that you are no longer in resonance with. You can find this quote in my Free Daily Self Empowerment Reminders eBook. Receive yours by signing up for my newsletter here.
Empowering Growth Mindset Reminder: “If there’s a will, there’s a way. I show up and make the effort towards that which truly matters to me.”
Thinking Big For Your Dream Life
The power of thinking big can help you break through your current struggles into embracing positive possibilities that expand you. Additionally, thinking bigger than where you currently are and your current challenges allows you to see the bigger picture.
Craft a big picture and long-term vision for your life. When you have a clear vision of where you want to go, you are able to align your current actions with your goals. Do not only think about where you want to be in 6 months from now. But where do you want to be in one year, three, 5 and ten years from now? Thinking big for your dream life can help you realise that your dreams are achievable and that you do have time. However, you get to choose how you spend your time.
Do you want to align your present actions with your long-term vision?
Developing a big thinking mindset can give you a purpose & goals to work towards. If you are someone like me who thrives on achievement (achieving meaningful work and goals that truly matter to you), big thinking can help influence your feeling of fulfilment.
Think big for your dream life and then work backwards from there.
Big Thinking Steps to create a roadmap for your success:
- Allow yourself to think big. Think big for your potential, your dream life and your future. Beyond your current limitations and struggles. Imagine and create your dream life.
- Create your big picture, long-term vision. Write it down. Visualise it. Brainstorm. Feel how it would feel to be living that now. And, create a vision board to inspire, excite, motivate and remind you that of course, your dream life can be real for you.
- Set goals in alignment with your dream life your way, that you want to achieve in each area of your life. Create a flexible vision of goals that you would like to achieve in one year from now, three, five and ten years from now.
- Break down your vision from each area of your life into a success plan. Work backwards. For example, you know where you want to go and be, now start with what you can do now, to get to where you want to be. What are simple, realistic, practical action steps that you can make today, tomorrow and the next, to progress one step closer to your goals? A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. – Lao Tzu
Even if your ambitions are huge, start slow, start small, build gradually, build smart. – Gary Vaynerchuk
Get clear on your priorities and make the positive shifts and changes necessary that are in alignment with your more happy and fulfilled life your way each day. Improve your focus, prioritise, remain consistent, pivot and adapt when necessary and never give up. 💚
You’ve got your big-picture vision and now you’ve got a roadmap for your success.
Insightful Reminder: Let your inner work and world- self-trust, self-belief and self-worth, reflect your outer work and world.
Empowering Mindset Affirmation: This life is precious and I am making the most of it now. I am worthy.
Practical Tools for Big Thinkers/Big Thinking
How can you start thinking bigger? These tools are so helpful in helping you create the fertile ground for you to think bigger and be a big thinker who takes action on your goals and dreams.
Surround yourself with supportive people who inspire and motivate you to grow.
- Your relationships, the people closest to you and your environment do influence you. Use social media to follow people, and read blog posts that inspire you, motivate and are like-minded aligned mentors for you. View them as inspiration to get to where you want to be. Learn from them and their knowledge. Surround yourself with positive people who bring out the best version of you and accept you for who you are. The influence of positive, supportive and aligned people can help you feel more empowered to live your dream life and think big.
- Recognise your progress and celebrate your small and big wins. Life is meant to be enjoyed and celebrated. Celebrate your progress. This tool will encourage your big thinking and help you continue to build momentum.
- Set courageous goals and have a success plan to get there. Don’t be afraid to have a big thinking vision for your life. It may not turn out exactly how you thought it would look like. And, that’s okay. That’s a part of the journey and all that you get to learn and grow from in the in-between. Life is happening now, in the in-between. Let all your experiences shape you into being the best version of yourself.
- Have a growth mindset. Developing a growth mindset is a no-brainer tool for big thinking. A simple way that you can develop a growth mindset is through viewing your challenges as an opportunity to grow, develop and evolve.
- Align your present actions with your big-picture vision. Aligning your present actions with your future goals helps you stay in alignment with your big thinking plan and goals. The transformative power of big thinking can help you become the best version of you now, through intentionally acting like that version of you now. This is a great tool to act as if it’s already happened, as ‘Your habits shape your identity and your identity shapes your habits’. – from the Atomic Habits book by James Clear.
Build momentum towards your long-term goals.
- This requires you to focus on your daily habits that bring you closer to your big-picture vision and goals. Your habits shape your life. Thus, your daily choices help shape and build momentum towards your long-term outcomes. What you do today is what matters most. Here are some motivating quotes from James Clear’s best-selling book Atomic Habits to motivate you to build daily habits that contribute towards achieving your dream life. “Every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become.” “Success is the product of daily habits, not once-in-a-lifetime transformation.” “You get what you repeat.”
- When you are feeling doubtful and like your dreams are out of your reach- “When will it ever happen?” Remember, “Improving by 1% isn’t particularly notable, sometimes it isn’t even noticeable…” “If you can get 1% better each day for one year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done.” Small, consistent action is better than nothing. Done is better than waiting for something to be perfect to start. Thus, taking action will get you closer to your dreams than not taking any action at all. Take action and learn, grow and develop more alignment in the process.
- Commit. Stay committed. In the midst of challenge, adversity and feeling like things are growing at a very slow pace, stay committed. One thing that can help you stay committed to your big thinking and dream life is having a strong WHY. Write down this journal prompt as a reminder for your WHY: Why is it that you are doing what you are doing? What is your underlying motivating force?
- Get clear on your priorities and focus on them. A tool for big-thinking is to become clear on what your priorities are in this season of your life and your big-picture vision. Then, focus on the actions that are in alignment with your priorities in this season of your life. Additionally, focus on the needle movers that make progress towards your big-picture goals, desires and dreams.
The transformative power of big thinking can help you achieve your dream life.
Bonus inspiration story from Tony Robbins to inspire your big thinking
As written in Tony Robbin’s book Awaken the Giant Within he shares how thinking big changed his life.
He writes:
“Eight years ago, in 1983, I did an exercise that created a future so compelling that my whole life changed as a result.
As part of the overall process of raising my standards, I established a whole new set of goals, writing down all the things I would no longer settle for, as well as what I was committed to having in my life.
I set aside all my limiting beliefs and sat down on the beach with my journal.”
Thinking big for your potential allows you to grow your wings and take the necessary consistent action to spread your wings and soar. The importance of big thinking is a key tool in achieving your dream life as it helps you grow, expand and triumph through your current limitations and challenges.
First, comes the big thinking and next comes taking the consistent action to get towards your ultimate goals, desires and dream life. Things do not always go to plan. That’s where a growth mindset is an integral factor for big thinkers! Not only that but practising patience, perseverance and resilience will help you ride the bumps along the way with more grace.
Lastly, there are many tools for big thinkers such as surrounding yourself with supportive, inspiring relationships and building habits that align your present actions with your future goals that can help you achieve your big-thinking dreams.
Empowering Mindset Reminder: “I can make positive changes in my life. I allow myself to make positive changes in my life.“
With a big thinking mindset, you can open yourself up to more opportunities to grow, expand and develop. With the knowledge you have learned from this Blog post, please don’t just let the ideas and inspiration sit there. I encourage and support you to take proactive steps towards achieving your dream life. With courage and patience, transform and step through your mindset barriers from “I am limited” to “anything is possible.” And lastly, embrace the journey of leaning into, exploring and living a more happy and fulfilled life your way each day.

This is a beautiful and inspiring post..thank you for sharing 🙂 I have often times, frustrated others for coming across as one who questions too much sometimes. I’m “always looking for a solution to a problem”, as they say.
I don’t see it that way. I see it as an exploration of what is ultimately possible if you peek behind that curtain of safety and what is normal in your life.
This post was verying inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing.
