25 Life Lessons I’ve Learned as a 25 Year Old

I’ve just turned 25 years old!! This is one of my more personal blog posts of the year. I’m building the tradition of sharing the life lessons I have learned in my years of this beautiful, wild and adventurous life!

This year has been one for the books! In the past year, I have matured more than I have so far. I’ve learned to communicate much more, I launched my Living Her Way business which I am so proud of, and I’ve learned how patience, faith and trust go together. 🤝

You’re going to want to continue reading this blog post if you’re curious and excited to explore the best life lessons I’ve learned as a 25 year old. 🩷

I hope that by sharing these 25 lessons that I’ve learned in the previous 25 years they bring you wisdom, learning, understanding, prosperity and positively contribute to your life! Additionally, I hope that through sharing my lessons and story that it inspires, motivates and encourages you that your dreams are absolutely possible of being transformed into reality! You are more than capable.

25 Life Lessons I’ve Learned as a 25 Year Old

1. You create your own reality

Every year, I develop and integrate more wisdom about this life lesson.

Your words, beliefs and thoughts about yourself and life can transform and create your reality. Both, the disempowering thoughts and the empowering ones.

For example, if you believe that you can have what you want, would you take action that is not in alignment with what you want? We usually do so through a subconscious belief or a fear. It takes time and patience to start thinking and rewiring new stories about yourself and your life. Replace the belief, “I can’t have what I want because.. insert reason or limiting belief.” with, “I can have what I want. I am deserving.”

When you start taking action that is in resonance with your new empowering affirmations and beliefs, that is when even more change occurs.

Overall, it is a very empowering journey to go once you realise you can change your life as you work on rewiring your thoughts, stories and beliefs to mirror a more happy and fulfilling life your way each day. Thus, also align your actions with your empowering beliefs to match the kind of life you want to create.

2. Done is better than unattainable perfection

Done is better than thinking that things have to be exactly right or perfect before you hit send, before you hit publish and before you book that flight.

Have you ever spent time feeling overwhelmed by when to do the thing and you end up holding yourself back and not taking action? Have you found yourself delaying, overthinking and procrastinating? Maybe you start to doubt yourself and wonder if it’s a good idea in the first place.. Stop. break the cycle.

For example, this year, I wanted to book a flight to New York City from Australia. I chose to book my flight to NYC because this is an experience I want to have.

Before I booked my flight, I had multiple doubts show up that wanted to prevent me from doing the thing I was so ready for. I realised that yes, it would require me to choose courage to travel to America. I also completed research which provided me with more knowledge about travelling to and living in New York City, + the need to know things.

I remember making a conscious decision that recognised that these doubts were showing up to keep me safe and in my comfort zone. So I built a relationship with them rather than shoving them down. And, I’m on my way to New York City in 2025!

Done is better than unattainable perfection. Trust your journey.

3. Start before you are ready

This combines well with my next life lesson, start before you are ready.

Start now, do one step and you will grow along the journey.

Sometimes, we are our biggest limitation.

Believe in yourself.

Start now! Do at least one step towards your dream life. 💫

4. Love for the sake of loving

Love for the sake of loving. Love needs no reason. Share your love because it is who you are.

4. You’re capable of more

You’re capable of more than what you thought was possible. You are capable of doing more reps than you thought you could do.

It really is a case of your mind over matter. Your mind is sometimes your largest block or limitation.

You are capable of achieving what you set your mind to, more than you might realise right now!

Learn to quieten your mind, observe your thoughts and focus on taking consistent action towards the life you’ve always dreamed of living and having. 💜

5. Go for it and give it your all

If it intuitively feels right to you, it’s your dream, it makes you happy and brings you joy, go all in and go for it.

The past year I’ve learned to not be afraid of going all in and if it’s meant for me- to go with it. Sometimes, the fear of failure can make us feel scared of going all in.

If you gave it your all, is there anything to regret if it doesn’t end up not turning out in the way that you wanted it to?

Things are always working out for you. Whether it may seem like it or not. There’s always something to learn in each situation and experience in your life.

When you commit to going all in on your dreams, it’s an almost indescribable feeling of excitement and fear!

I want to look back at my life and say, “I did everything that I wanted to do. I went all in and I gave it a go.” Not >> “What if I……”

Are you prepared to go all in on your dream life??

6. Achieving your dream life requires courage

If you want to achieve the life you have always dreamed of, it requires that you repeatedly choose courage. As you go after more, your dream life, limiting beliefs, doubts, fears and wounds that need to be healed show up. Well, they definitely did for me. Today, doubts, fears and limiting beliefs still show up. Just different ones than I previously had.

Choose the courage to break free from your comfort zone and limiting beliefs that try to keep you safe and remain small or where you are.

To sum this life lesson up, achieving your dream life requires consistent action, believing in yourself and having faith, breaking through your comfort zone limiting beliefs and endlessly expanding into your potential. All of which require you to: 1. Show up relentlessly, 2. Lean into courage 💪🏼 and, 3. Celebrate your wins. 🎉

7. Don’t hold back your passion

If you feel passionate and excited about something, allow yourself to be passionate! Follow your passion! Do something that you are passionate about every day!

Furthermore, always keep your passion alive. Keep your passion alive within yourself, within your relationships and within your passion for life!

8. You learn as you do the thing. Start now

Don’t overcomplicate things. Do the thing! Don’t wait for the most aligned timing to start taking action towards your dream life. Creating and living your dream life is built upon small actions repeated consistently over a long period of time. Thus, if you don’t start now, you will only push back your growth towards your more happy and fulfilling life your way each day!

As you show up and do the thing, you build momentum and continue to build more & more momentum every day you that you show up.

Best tips for this life lesson:

  • Learn as you go.
  • You are always learning while you’re completing the thing.
  • Focus on one thing at a time, then move on to the next thing.
  • Take your next aligned step along the path of where you want to go and then the next step and then the next one.
  • Again, you don’t have to be perfect to start and your work doesn’t have to be perfect to hit publish or to hit send.

the best time to plant a tree was thirty years ago, the second best time is today.

9. Put your future self in the present

This life lesson I’ve learned as a 25-year-old is about doing things in the now moment for my future self. This lesson is about putting your time, attention, energy and resources into choices/actions that will benefit your future self. In other words, your future self will later see the results of the work you put in today.

Why? Why delay your gratification? So your future self can have what she wants and more choices. It’s a risk because as you know the future isn’t guaranteed.

That’s where you still need to be happy with the life you’re living in the moment. I’m learning to accept the idea that some seasons and chapters will feel less balanced than others.

How can you enjoy your everyday life more while taking daily action towards your long-term dreams and goals?

10. Things take time

Good things take time.

Just because you don’t have something yet doesn’t mean it won’t come or won’t work out.

Also, if something is worth it, practice patience.

Along with patience, goes trust. Practicing patience and trusting your journey go hand in hand.

Give yourself time and give your dreams time to grow.

This quote below reminds me that there is no rush to any place worth going or that I truly want to last.

“There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”

― Beverly Sills

11. Communication is key

Learn to improve your communication. Communication is one of the things that can strengthen or dampen your relationships. Furthermore, communication can increase the loyalty, honesty and trust in your relationships.

12. Start building your wealth

This life lesson taught me to take charge of my finances and my financial future. It’s empowering to know your money. What’d coming in and what you’re spending your money on.

Understand money. Increase your financial literacy and start building your wealth.

You can do things today that can increase your finances in the future, like investing and cutting down on unnecessary purchases. Overall, through building your wealth, you will have more choices.

13. Seasons of hard work

This life lesson taught me that there are seasons of hard work. There are seasons where I am working more than I would like to to get to my goals quicker.

When I am in seasons of more work than socialising, going out in the world and enjoying my life to achieve a goal I have set for myself, I remind myself that the work I put in towards my goals today does pay off. Additionally, my future self will be able to look back and observe all the progress and growth I have made along the way.

Viewing work seasons as just a season is a great perspective shift to help you realise that this season or chapter won’t last forever. You will have more freedom and be able to have & create more balance in your life after this season, if that is your intention!

“The day you sow the seed is not always the day that you reap the reward.”

14. Always move forward

This life lesson taught me to keep on moving forward. I’ve learned to make a decision, rather than get stuck.

Life throws difficult challenges, confusion and very sad things our way. Change, stepping out of your comfort zone, fear of making the wrong decision and the unknown can sometimes leave you feeling stuck or resistant to making a decision.

I’ve felt stuck in procrastination, confusion, doubt and delay before. It only made me feel more stressed, anxious and overwhelmed when I kept the cycle of not making any decisions going.

Moving forward and consistency in moving forward is like a muscle to be trained. The more you build the momentum of showing up and moving forward, the easier it becomes to show up and move forward consistently. Moving forward is not always giant leaps and huge gains. Sometimes, it is the simple act of being aware.

Side note: Always be kind to yourself with this one!

15. Choose growth, be brave, take risks and step out of your comfort zone

This life lesson is about taking bold action on your ideas and dreams.

Have you ever wanted to build your own business and become self-employed?

Go for it!

Even when you feel resistant to change and breaking past your limiting beliefs, lean into courage, grow and step out of your comfort zone. Furthermore, you truly grow and increase your knowledge & experience when you step outside of your comfort zone. To grow, means that you are alive!

I have learned that most of my goals and dreams like travelling the world, have required me to take a risk and make a choice to make it happen.

The positive risks I’ve taken to make my dreams come true have for sure made me feel afraid at times about what could go wrong. However, I’ve enjoyed this journey of choosing courage, growing along the way, being brave, doing the things that I’ve wanted to do and living the life that feels true to me.

Your dreams and potential are just waiting for you to believe in them and transform them into reality!

Action steps to transform your dreams into reality:

  • Believe in your dreams
  • Trust the process and your vision
  • Reclaim your time and decide to use your time and effort towards your dreams
  • Decide
  • Take regular and consistent action
  • Enjoy the journey
  • Learn to accept and embrace change more
  • Expand your knowledge and skills/expertise
  • Choose courage
  • Embrace your inner and outer growth journey
  • Commitment, patience, faith, self discipline and motivation
  • See your dreams through until the end

16. Live in alignment with your values

Living in alignment with your values has been a huge life lesson in the fact of how much it shifted my life for the better. When I was not living in alignment with my values, life felt a lot more chaotic and unstable.

Now, I have a lot more ease, grace and direction in my life. Additionally, living in alignment with my values adds to my peace, certainty, happiness and living a fulfilling life. Further, some of your values mould and become more refined as you grow, evolve and change.

What truly matters to you and is most important to you? Our time on earth is impermanent.

Journal Prompts for gaining clarity on your values:

  • What makes me happy?
  • What gives my life meaning and purpose?
  • What do I value– truly value? What matters most to me?
  • How do I feel fulfilled?

17. Reclaim your time

This life lesson is an absolute game-changer! Once, you realise that you actually have more autonomy over where you spend your time, energy, attention and focus, start to be more intentional with your time.

Audit your time. In what ways (what), how and where are you spending your time that is not in alignment with how you want to be spending your life?

Yes, there are responsibilities that we need to do that are not always how we want to be spending our time. Outside of those hours, how are you spending your time, energy, focus and attention? What are you spending those finite resources on?

“How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.” – Annie Dillard

Ways to reclaim your time for what matters most to you and how you would like to be spending your precious energy and time:

  • Set boundaries with your time
  • Limit distractions and complete deep work sessions completely distraction-free
  • Train your focus and attention to focus on one thing/ your task in the present
  • Audit your time. Redefine or define your priorities. Then, make the changes you need or want to make to put your time, attention and energy into what you want to be doing with your life/ how you would like to spend your time
  • Build systems to become more productive, effective and efficient at your job

18. Time goes fast. Travel!

Time flies. Travel while you have fewer responsibilities. Don’t be afraid to invest your time, energy and money into travel!

The people, culture, places, and life experiences that I have shared, learned and experienced through travel have been life-changing. Words can’t describe how life-enriching and memorable travel can be.

The benefits of traveling:

  • Meet new people
  • Personally develop, find out more about yourself and grow!
  • Gain knowledge and more wisdom
  • Share you story, encourage, isnpire and connect with new people
  • Get out of your comfort zone
  • Discover different lifestyles, learn new cultures and find clarity on the way you want to live your life and the type of life/lifestyle that you want to build and live
  • Learn

19. Ikigai

Ikigai is a Japanese concept blending passion, talent, purpose, and fulfillment. It involves blending what you love, are good at and what the world needs ( the value you can add and give to the world) & pays for.

The word Ikigai itself translates to reason for being or living. I’ve always had a deep desire to find my purpose. I’m so passionate about writing, creating & teaching personal development and travel content and products as these two things helped me to discover and find my ikigai.

This life lesson is about finding and discovering your reason for living. The why that fuels you and that gets you out of bed in the morning.

Discovering and finding out my ikigai was a deep inward journey reflected through outwards experiences.

I hope that by sharing my story and personal development content, tools & resources I contribute a valuable postive part to your journey of discovering and finding your ikigai.

20. Faith, patience and trust

Life doesn’t always happen in the way we expect it to and certainly not always on our timeline.

I know that sometimes, I want things to happen sooner. This life lesson has taught me to trust, be patient and have faith in God’s plan for my life. “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ” — Jeremiah 29:11

So whatever your dreams are they are not out of reach. Trust, practice patience and have faith that it’s all working out for your highest good.

Show up for your dream life daily, keep learning and trust.

21. Journal

A personal development practice that has been a primary support in my personal growth, discovery and development journey for over 10 years has been the practice of journaling.

I started journaling to discover myself and gain deeper knowledge about life. Now, I use journaling not only as a support system to help me but also to know my deeper thoughts, feelings and beliefs and to create my dream life!

This self-awareness tool helps me make life decisions, build a deeper connection with myself and overall gain clarity on my dream life and the action steps to take to get there.

This life lesson has taught me to practice the consistent habit of journaling.

22. How to be consistent, focused and disciplined

For so long I had this itch to know how to be consistent. I didn’t quite have that within myself, well so I thought until I became consistent. This life lesson has taught me that not everything you try you’ll be consistent with. However, when you find what works for you and that’s in alignment with your values, you’ll want to be consistent.

How to be consistent:

Ask yourself this question. ⬇️

  • Are your goals, habits, systems and what you’re doing in your everyday life in alignment with your goals (specific goals and your long-term goals? Are they aligned with what you want out of your life/ how you want to be spending your life?

Further is how you are living your life in the present moment, aligned with the version of you that you want to become?

Lastly, when you find that thing that sets your passion and light on fire, you will want to stay consistent and do it.

“In a couple of years, it won’t even matter how long it took. You’ll just be glad you did it and made it happen.”

23. Choose adventure

This life lesson is about saying yes to adventures! Choose courage and don’t be afraid to do things you’ve never done before. That’s where the magic happens!

What if you invited more adventure into your life through seeing achieving your dreams as a big adventure?

Would you let yourself enjoy the process more?

Enjoy life. Make time for fun times, what brings you joy and adventure! Focus on making progress over perfection.

24. Anything is possible

I love this mindset of “Anything is possible.” I also like to surround myself with people who believe that anything is possible.

When there’s a will there is always a way.

There’s more possible than what you’re currently experiencing. Practice a curious, active, flexible and open mindset.

Surround yourself with people who have an expansive limitless mindset and who believe anything is possible too.

25. Humility and remembering to enjoy the journey

No matter how successful or evolved you become, you will always continue to learn. We never stop learning.

Even while writing these 25 life lessons I have learned in the past 25 years of life, I can admit that these life lessons I’m still practising. Just because I have learned a lesson, it doesn’t mean I am not still learning it.

This lesson reminds me that I don’t have it all figured out and to enjoy the journey more often.
