Here are the best travel apps to help you budget and plan for your next travel experience
Booking Flights
Jetstar is my go-to for inexpensive flights from Australia to destinations around Australia. They also offer cheap flights from Australia to one of my personal fave countries, Bali, Indonesia.
Skyscanner is a great travel app to find cheap flights to anywhere in the world. I love using this app to research the cheapest flights for long-distance travel from Australia.
Planning and Booking Your Accommodation
I love using these travel apps to find beautiful places to stay all around the world. They are also a great way to find cheap accommodation for long-term stays.
Airbnb is great travel app for finding beautiful accommodations, homestays and cheap monthly stays in places like Southeast Asia.
Hostelworld for Hostels
Great for finding Hostels around the world.
A travel app that you can use to book your hotel, apartment, resort or villa.
One of my best friends first recommended this travel app to me. I then booked a stay in Bali through Agoda and got a great deal. I was also really happy with my stay. You can find some great deals for accommodation on Agoda.
Finding and Booking Travel Activities & Experiences
You can find all kinds of fun tours & experiences on Klook for an affordable price.
GetYourGuide is another trusted website that I have booked experiences through such as Nusa Penida Snorkelling with Manta Rays Tour.
Transportation
Gojek for transport in Bali
Gojek is a very affordable way to get around Bali via a scooter driven by a local driver. This travel app is my go-to for hiring, reliable local drivers to get me to where I want to go in Bali.
Uber is great for transport when you don’t have a car, when you would not like to take public transport or when public transport is not accessible. It can be a more expensive option. However, it is always handy to have. Uber operates in 72 countries around the world.
This is an awesome, cheap way to travel through Europe via Bus. You can travel from country to country, for example, from Berlin to Prague for as little as €17.99!
Currency Conversion and Travel Money Accounts
If you are looking for a way to transfer your currency to the local currency of your destination, I can recommend Wise. You can order a physical debit card and also a digital card to pay via Apple Pay. With Wise, you can send money around the world at the real exchange rate, with low conversion fees.
XE Currency is a travel app to use for currency conversion that lets you check live foreign currency exchange rates. I have not used this personally for sending money, but they do allow the option for you to send international money transfers.
Finding and Researching Places to Eat
When you are searching for the best places to eat at your destination, I recommend using this travel app as a good reference. It’s great for receiving a good selection of ideas for places to eat and browsing their reviews.
Food from my most recent trip to Bali. You can check out Your Ultimate Guide to Solo Travel in Bali on my Blog post here.
Where to Find Free Accommodation
If you love pets, house-sitting is a great option for you! You can find short-term and long-term house and pet sits. You get to stay in the owner’s house for free in exchange for looking after their pets. This is an amazing way to see the world or even your own country while saving money on accommodation.

Mindahome can be used to find House and pet sits only in Australia.

All my favorite apps are here but it’s actually the first time I hear about Trusted House Sitters so I’ll have to add it to my list. Great post, thanks for sharing!
Great list! One thing I always do (when renting a car) is to download the local parking apps. This can reduce the hassles of looking for a spot.
Great list, not sure how we used to travel before all these technology
I love using SkyScanner when I’m looking for cheap flights. Also, Tripadvisor is a great place to search for restaurants for international travel. I will save this post for later!

I have bookmarked this post to come back too as we are looking to plan a vacation and these apps are super helpful! I love technology and how much it helps us to plan and prepare!
I love
Booking.com and Klook! I would also add google translate and google lens. It works wonders when you are in countries with different languages.
I’ve never tried Trusted House Sitter but always wanted to 🙂
Very helful. I love travelling. I am sure this will come in handy one day.
I’ve never heard of most of these travel apps. These will certainly come in handy when I travel. Amazing and thank you for creating this helpful guide.
I need to get these apps for sure. We are traveling over the summer and they will come in handy.
I have used trip advisor app before but for some reason never though to look it while in vacation! This post has great tips.
It’s been so long since I’ve gone on a real vacation. I’m hoping I can do a getaway in December near Christmas. I’ll most likely go visit my daughter in Kansas. I use Waze maps bc it tracks my drive and alerts for construction, debris in the road, accidents, slow downs, cops, and even broken down cars on the side of the highway.
I’ve been looking for some reliable options to help with my upcoming trip, and your recommendations are just what I needed.
Great list! It is good to have tools like this for traveling. I will definitely have to check out some of these apps to help us on our next trip.
Those are some great selection of apps to check out and thanks for sharing this resources with us, definitely a great help.
These flight booking apps caught my attention the most and would offer convenience with quick access to multiple airlines. Checking them out could help me find great deals for my next trip.
we actually have and use flixbus here in the US as well and it has worked pretty good the few times we did use it for my college going son
I never realized there are so many travel apps!
I am so used in using Klook but I am actually looking for alternatives. Will check out GetYourGuide and the other apps you mentioned. I was able to try Gojek during our recent Bali trip.
Great suggestions and really like your site. Definitely reflects your personality and what is important to you. Well done!
Thanks for the different apps! I love Polarsteps as well, it tracks your GPS and creates a map of where you’ve been. It’s great to share with friends and family and a cool ‘souvenir’ of your trip 🙂
Thanks for this great round-up – never hear of Klook, will look into it!
Will have to give Agoda a try! I’ve heard of it before but haven’t used it yet.
When I am in the UK, I use the Trainline App to plan and get my train tickets!
I’m a Skyscanner lover, too, such an underutilized app!
