Things You Can Start Doing Today For Your Future Self

I first came across the concept of doing it for your future self through the Rise & Conquer Podcast. Just hearing about this concept inspired me to start doing things today that will benefit my future self.

If you’re ready to start thinking of your future self and doing things today that will support your future self in living a more happy and fulfilling life your way, this post is for you.

For example, do you desire to be able to work from anywhere, but you don’t yet have that ability? By thinking of your future self’s goals and desires, you can start doing things today to get you closer to achieving them. Further, you don’t have to be totally unfulfilled and unhappy to start thinking of your future self!

These are some of the things I’ve been doing, practising and thinking of now for my future self.

I hope this blog post inspires and motivates a spark within you to start doing things now so that your future self can thank you later.

Develop and practice patience!

Patience is so important on the journey of doing things today that your future self will thank you later for.

Without patience, I do not think I would be where I am today, putting in the consistent work and effort towards my dreams & goals.

Without embodying the virtue of patience, I may have given up by now.

Sometimes when you don’t see ‘results’, ‘success’ or clear evidence that things will work out straight away, it can be easy to not stay the course. It can be easy to not keep doing the thing to get you to where you want to be.

Your future self will 1000% thank you for being patient and persisting.

The more I lean into practising being patient, the more I trust the process. Further, the more I practice patience on my journey, the more grounded I feel too.

Trust your vision for your future self, develop patience and practice it regularly. 💚

Take charge of your financial future

Taking charge of your financial future can sometimes seem like a ‘boring’ concept.

Honestly, I never really chose to look after my financial future until I did! Living in the moment and being spontaneous with how you spend your money can be pretty fun.

Now that I am choosing to take charge of my financial future so my future self can thank me later, it makes me feel really grateful and motivated. And, I’m glad I’m doing it now.

Things You Can Start Doing Today For Your Future Self

Develop and have true friendships

One of the best things, I have done for my future self already is developing and having true friendships that last a lifetime. We can’t know for certain that any friendship will last a lifetime, but we can hold that intention and commitment.

Develop and have true friends that honour, respect, support and cherish you for who you are, as you do them.

Having quality and true friends over how many friends you have or think you need to have matters.

At the end of the day, having true friends by your side makes the world of difference and life that much more incredible.

Forgive

Learn to forgive your past.

Your shortcomings, your failures, your missed chances and the ones who have hurt you.

Your future self will thank you for not carrying on to old pain, fears or resentment.

You deserve to be happy. You are allowed to give yourself unconditional love.

No one is perfect, and no one ever will be.

Additionally, learn.

Always keep learning and growing through each day that life brings you.

Forgive yourself, forgive others and learn to let go. Do it for your future self.

Be brave and courageous. Take risks and do the things that make you happy

Be brave and courageous, go for it and make the most of your beautiful life.

Why not?

Being brave and courageous early in my life has helped me realise that I can do hard things and that my dreams really can become a reality.

I’m glad that the younger version of me did many brave and courageous things to put herself out there and SAY YES to life. And, I’m glad that I’m continuing to stay brave and courageous, not only for my current self and her dreams but also for my future self.

By being brave and practising courage now, you can support your future self in making their dreams come true.

Things You Can Start Doing Today For Your Future Self

Look after your health

Start looking after your health and well-being now.

Do something every day that contributes to your health.

Rest when you need to.

Your health is one of your greatest wealths. And, your body is your vessel to experience thie beautiful life with.

Take care of it and take care of you.

Take notice, is the current lifestyle you’re living contributing to your health and well-being longevity or not? For example, do you feel like you are burning the candle at both ends? Do you consistently feel overwhelmed and stressed out with all that you have on your plate? It may be a sign that it’s time to start choosing yourself more and creating positive changes in your life that contribute to your health and well-being.

Some simple exercises that you can do to look after your health and well-being now so that your future self will thank you for taking care of yourself include:

  • Move your body daily
  • Take time out to rest
  • Spend time outside/ in nature regularly
  • Soak up the sunshine/ get your vitamin D
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Look after your eye and dental health- get glasses if you need them
  • Ensure you are getting the adequate + quality sleep that your body needs
  • Incorporate mindfulness and deep breathing to regulate your nervous system and reduce your stress levels
  • Eat a well-balanced diet
  • Listen to your body

Start incorporating positive habits that contribute to your health and well-being now.

Daily habits compound over time.

Set goals, dreams, plans and opportunities that you want to experience

Check-in with your big-picture vision for your future.

If you don’t yet have a vision and idea of what you would like your future to look like and what dreams & goals you would like to achieve/ experience- create a vision board and/or write down on a fresh page, ‘What do I want out of my life?’.

Allow yourself to think big for your potential and future as you write down answers and ideas to this question.

Are you setting goals and mini milestones to help you achieve that?

Are you doing something today/ consistently to help you achieve your big-picture vision for your life?

Your future self can thank you for setting goals, dreams and plans. Not only that but thank you for taking action towards your dreams, plans and goals.

Learn so much! And, continue to keep learning and growing.

Invest in yourself. Invest in your personal growth and development.

One way that I have experienced my future self thanking me for investing in myself and learning a lot!

Further, through gaining more knowledge, education and insight on topics that I’ve been passionate, curious about and interested in, it has helped me improve or added value to my life in some way.

And now I’m ready to give and share that value. 💚

Step out of your comfort zone regularly

Show yourself that you can do things that feel hard.

Be kind to yourself! And also make the effort to push your edges.

Stepping out of your comfort zone regularly is a great way to do it for your future self as it can help you grow.

Even if you are just committed to showing up and getting 1% better each day, this is something that your future self can thank you for.

Strive for progress, not perfection.

Slow down. Take moments to be content and grateful for where you are at right now

Yes, your future self can thank you for enjoying where you are at. Additionally, your future self can thank you for remembering moments to be grateful and content for all that you already have.

While striving for your version of success and doing the things that will make your future self proud- don’t forget to enjoy the journey.

Give things a go. Say Yes

Give your passions and dreams a go!

Your future self will thank you for going after the life you’ve always fantasised about or dreamed of.

Live your life to the fullest.

If not now, then when?

Many times we fear failure. But once you ‘fail’ at something we can realise later that failure wasn’t so bad and that we can choose to grow from it each time.

I like to remind myself when making transformative changes and taking positive risks and chances, why not?

Anything is possible.

Positive Affirmation: Yes, I may feel scared. But, I’m going to give it a go anyway.

Believe in yourself

Your future self can thank you so much for believing in yourself and not giving up.

Please do not give in to your doubts, worries and fears.

Practise believing in yourself time and time again. Commit to believe in yourself.

This doesn’t mean you dont experience fears and self-doubt. It means you choose to see the reasons why to believe in yourself over the fears and doubts.

Your future self can thank you for believing in yourself enough to go after the life that makes you feel more happy and fulfilled your way each day.

Have Fun

How good does it feel to celebrate life and have a good time?

Your future self can thank you for having fun. Yes, achieve your goals and dreams and work hard.

But also, don’t forget to have fun.

Have you ever got into the mindset:

  • I’ll be happy when..
  • I’ll finally be able to relax when..
  • I’ll allow myself to enjoy my life when…?

A little reminder: Amongst the pursuit of your dreams and goals,
